The tempo
A beat every 0.47 seconds gives a four-on-the-floor kick its drive without tipping into techno territory. 128 is also convenient to mix: it divides cleanly into 32-bar phrases, which is why so much dance music is arranged in blocks of 16 and 32 bars and why DJ sets so often sit within a beat or two of it.

Practice note: When two club tracks refuse to beatmatch, check the phrasing rather than the tempo. At 128 a 32-bar phrase is exactly one minute, so a phrase that starts in the wrong place is easy to spot.
